When The Moon Is Low A Novel explores the life of a couple, Mahmoud, a civil engineer and Fereiba, a school teacher living in Kabul, Afghanistan. Their happy and simple life of education, work, and comfort implode when her husband is murdered at the hands of the Taliban, a fundamentalist regime which has taken power in Afghanistan. With only one hope for survival Fereiba with his three children moves to London to seek refuge with her sister's family. Traveling with forged papers, Fereiba begins her journey towards London that reduces her from a respected woman to a desperate refugee. To make things worse, Fereiba's teenage son, Saleem, becomes separated from the rest of the family in a busy neighborhood in Athens. Without his mother, Saleem becomes a victim of human trafficking and spends his days in squalid refugee camps. Heartbroken, Fereiba continues her journey with her daughter and baby in the hope of finding a place where she can be reunited with her son.
